NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE PHILIPPINES hereby invites you to a Presidential Exhibition, the first of its kind, on June 14th, 2010 at the National Art Gallery in the Old Legislative Building, in front of the Manila City Hall.
On June 14th, 2010, on the 112th anniversary of Philippine Independence Day, at 5:00 PM in the afternoon, FOUR present, past and future Philippine Presidents will be invited to cut the ribbons to a Presidential Exhibition of the National Museum, the first since 2002, to celebrate Independence Day and the June 30th Inauguration of the 15th President of the Republic – which will be scheduled from June 14 to July 15,. 2010. The Presidential Exhibit consists of three parts:
First is the permanent display of 157 Juan Luna paintings, largest collection of Luna paintings ever, never before shown together, a donation of the Far East Bank & Trust in the 1990s. This will be highlighted by the unveiling of the newly restored “Una Bulakeña” masterpiece which together with the “Spolarium” will be declared “National Cultural Treasures,” the highest form of Heritage status.
Second is the permanent display of 150 Fernando Amorsolo Sketches and associated Memorabilia (paint brushes, palettes, easels), a donation of the Amorsolo Family.
Third and most important, the piece de resistance of the Presidential Exhibit, is a presentation of the 30 Greatest Treasures of Philippine Archeology, designating all thirty of them “National Cultural Treasures ” the highest form of Heritage Status, with a signing of an official Declaration. These include one of only two known existing “astrolabe” in the world, invented in ancient Alexandria and found in the San Diego wreck of 1600 AD; the Tabon Tibia Fragment from the oldest Filipino, carbon-dated 47,000 years ago; The Tabon Skull Cap, earliest skull of the modern man, carbon-dated 16,000 years ago; and artifacts and ecofacts representing aspects of 50,000 years of Philippine history.
In addition the National Museum is undertaking a Restoration of the former Senate Session Hall where Senate President Manuel Quezon presided over such great Senators and Filipino leaders as Claro M. Recto, Sergio Osmeña, Manuel Roxas and Benigno Aquino (both senior and junior); and also the Restoration of the former Lower House Session Hall and associated space for use as an auditorium, function venue and gallery.
In September of 2010, the National Museum will present a Special Exhibit featuring “Ang Kultura ng mga Kapangpangan” – a historical extravaganza featuring the Aquinos of Tarlac, the Abad Santoses of San Fernando, and the Macapagals of Lubao (with special emphasis on the 100th anniversary of Diosdado’s birth); the history of the Macabebe Scouts, the Hukbalahaps and the NPA; of Clark Field and the American Bases; the Exile of Lakandula and the Tax Exemption granted to his descendants (among them the Puyats and the Macapagals); the Gonzalez Family and the gift of the Russian Czars; the Mancommunidad Extravaganzas, the zarzuelas and literature of the Pampangueño.

P.D. 374 and the newly signed R.A. 10066 mandates the National Museum to recognize artworks, artifacts, and ecofacts with outstanding artistic, scientific, cultural, and historical value either as National Cultural Treasures or Important Cultural Properties.
